install VNC Remote Desktop
The Fedora 12 computer can be able to remote controlled by using the remote desktop. To setup the remote desktop, Three main things that we have to do:
Setup the remote desktop server
Change the firewall setting to allow remote desktop port to go through
Setup port forwarding in router to allow access from outside the site
Setup the remote desktop server
1.Click on the “system” at the top left corner, choose “Preferences” -> Remote Desktop
2.Under “Sharing”, check the “Allow other users to view your desktop” and “Allow other users to control your desktop”
3.Under “Security”, check the “Require the user to enter this password” and set a password in the textfield.
4.Unless your want to confirm each remote access to the host computer, otherwise leave the “You must confirm each access to this machine” unchecked
5.Click “Close” when done”.
Change the firewall setting to allow remote desktop port to go through
1.Click on “System” -> “Administration” -> “Firewall”
2.Input the root password into the Authentication box, and “Firewall Configuration” would appear
3.Click “Other Ports” on the left and then click “Add” on the right, the “Port and Protocol” box would appear
4.Choose “5900″ port (the default VNC port) , tcp Protocol, then click “OK”
5.Click “Apply” button, then click “YES”
Setup port forwarding in router to allow access from outside the site
Please refer to your router’s manual, look for port forwarding, forward port 5900tcp to the local IP of your fedora computer.
